Recipes, Ramblings, and More Sickness

Well today was the first day of April and it was a beautiful day.  I am always SO happy once April arrives.  It means warm weather is pretty much here to stay, it's Ruy's birthday month, it means school is only a few weeks away from being over (we finish in early May), it means baseball games, it means lots of fun park trips, eating outside, walks...and the list goes on.  Yes, Spring, Summer & Fall are just WAY WAY better than Winter.  Who has time for being cold and stuck inside all the time???

Speaking of being stuck inside...Ruy got sick late Sunday night.  He woke me up around 10:45 Sunday night covered in throw up.  Oh joy!  I had only been asleep about 20 minutes when he woke me up.  I started a bath for him, took all the sheets off his bed and started the washing machine, got him a change of clothes, made a little bed for him on the floor next to my bed, got him some medicine to try to help with his stomach ache, tucked him into his little bed and then laid back down to sleep.  Well sleep never really happened for either of us that night.  He threw up and had diarrhea about every 15-45 minutes until 3AM.  He threw up all over the bathroom at one point as well so I got to clean my bathroom at 1AM.  I felt so bad for him though.  He was in so much pain and just so exhausted.  The two of us were a sight.   He finally fell asleep at 3AM and slept until 6AM.  Alanna woke up shortly after he fell back asleep around 6:30, so I just got up took a shower and then got Alanna up.  So I had about three hours of sleep that night.

He spent the next two days laying on the couch.  Today was the first day he was finally feeling better.  He still has some stomach issues going on a little but I felt by the time he went to bed, he was feeling mostly back to normal.  After three days of that mess I really hope so.  Seeing him cry and in pain like that is just so miserable for me.  It's a hopeless feeling when your kids are sick.

I tried to get some things accomplished today since the past few days I have felt like I've got nothing done.  Nathan got whatever bug Ruy had too so that has not been fun either.  But today I got up and wrote up a big list of things I wanted to get done.  Sometimes the little every day things us mom's do, we feel like they are not important but when you write it all down, you realize just how much you have to get done in a day in between taking care of a sick kid and husband, a three year old and a 1 year old.

I tried two new recipes tonight... Cheeseburger Pie and Deviled Eggs.  Believe it or not, I've never made deviled eggs before but I've been wanting some so I thought I'd try it out tonight.  They are so easy to make I can't believe I've never made them before.  The kids all LOVED the meal which is always wonderful for me so this will be a meal I make again.  It's also Trim Healthy Mama approved.  I don't make the kids separate meals from what Nathan and I eat.  They eat whatever dinner foods Nathan and I are eating.  It would be way too hard to try to make two different meals for dinner.  I made these recipes pretty much exactly as the recipe called for.  The only change in the Cheeseburger Pie that I made was garlic powder for onion powder.  And I left out the green onions in the Deviled Eggs.

Ruy helped me make the deviled eggs and Liam was my little buddy while I made a new GGMS drink.  It had peach tea, apple cider vinegar, truvia, ginger, and lime juice in it.  It was really good and Liam drank half of it.  He tends to always drink up most of  my healthy THM drinks before I get to :)

We did get to play outside for a little while today since Ruy's stomach had settled down enough to let him walk around out there with us, or sit on the playground while I chased the two "littles" around.

Then I let Liam stay up past his normal bedtime (7:30pm) to watch a Veggie Tales with Ruy and me.  It got over at 8:15PM.  He started getting upset right away.  It took me five minutes to get him to go to the bathroom.  He just sat there crying saying he couldn't go and after I finally got him to go potty, he went and laid on the floor in his room and just cried.  After I got him tucked in and walked out of the room, he started screaming for me.  He kept saying "I'm not tired, sleeping is boring, I can't fall asleep!"  He was very over stimulated I could tell, and overly tired.  I finally decided rather than to keep telling him "just go to sleep" and walking out, to sit there with him for a minute.  I rubbed his face for a few minutes and told him to think about all the fun things we are going to do at the beach in a few weeks.  He said "See the seahorses at the aquarium!!!"  After a few minutes, I got up, kissed him, and walked out, and he was finally quiet.  It was about 8:45PM at that point.  That may not seem late to some, but he doesn't nap anymore and so past 7:30, he starts to really shut down.  I thought maybe he would be ok tonight, but obviously not...especially not with watching a movie.  It's just too over stimulating for him.  So I won't be doing that again for a long time.

I've been wanting to find some new things to do to help him relax at night.    I know some people say essential oils are the best.  I've really been considering buying some. What are your favorite ways to help your little ones relax before bedtime?  We normally do baths and read books.

Well that's all for now.  I'm praying my husband and Ruy are 100% better before the weekend gets here.  We have a lot of plans for Easter and I know how much Ruy wants to be better before then.  Do you have any fun plans for Easter.  I'd love to hear about your family's traditions!!!

*Sorry about all the "not so great" cell phone images.  I've been so tired the past few days, I haven't really even thought about getting my nice camera out.
