DIY Ruler Growth Chart

For several years, I have dreamed of having a Ruler Growth Chart.  I think the first one I ever saw was at Pottery Barn Kids.  That's no surprise though, since Pottery Barn is my favorite store.  Then when I joined the wonderful world of Pinterest, I saw how other people were making their own.  Pinterest can be a dangerous thing!  Confession...I might have a slight obsession with Pinterest :)

Anyways...after years of wanting this growth chart, I decided I should try to make one myself.  I convinced my best friend Kim to join me in my adventure.  She is much more crafty than I am, so I thought I was setting myself up for sure success.  Plus it would be more fun to do it with someone else.  So, on a cold wet February day, I drove to Kim's house and we started working on our charts.  We had high hopes of finishing our charts that day.  But after we both messed up on the staining, and Kim realizing she didn't have enough vinyl...we realized we really didn't have a clue what we were doing.  It was an Epic DIY Failure!

I brought my board home and it sat in my dining room, propped up against the wall for several months.  Until on my birthday I decided to re-stain it.  I got the stain right on the second try but then it sat in the dining room for another few months.  And then my amazing husband, who is incredible at DIY projects, burned all the marks into the board for me.  Then he applied the vinyl numbers I had ordered, put a hanger on the back of the chart, and hung it up for me!  It only took five months from start to finish but it is finally done and I LOVE it so very much!
