Before Nathan and I bought our house we were living with my Dad. We lived with him for 2.5 years so that we could save up money for a home of our own. I will forever be grateful to my Dad for allowing us to live with him. Without that, we would not be where we are today.
We attempted buying a house about a year before we bought the house we live in now, but neither Nathan or I had peace about it so we decided we needed to wait for another house. I'm so glad we did. In July 2012, we started looking at houses again. The first house we looked at ended up being the house we would buy.
Nathan and I had a limited budget, so the houses we were looking into were all mainly short sales or foreclosures. Typically, those types of homes are in need of a good deal of repair. When I found a listing for our house on Zip Realty, it was a short sale. There were only pictures of the outside of the house, which led Nathan and I to believe that there must be something wrong with the inside of the home or they surely would have shown pictures of it. Still, we loved the outside of the house and the price it was listed at was very close to our budget. We thought if we liked the house, we could just offer them less then the listed price.
We met our realtor at the house a few days after viewing the listing. When we drove up to it, we both liked it a lot. It had a full front porch (something I always wanted), a fully fenced in yard (amazing), and a playground. I was so nervous about going inside. Nathan and I had gone to look at many short sales and we knew that disaster could be waiting for us inside.
That is really a nice house. It is small and cozy, just like I would want for myself. I, like you, have not been able to buy a house right away, and I still have to rent a small city apartment, where I live with my cat. But I hope to save up some money soon, and I am glad you found what you wanted.
ReplyDeleteThank you Miriam! We have been very happy with it. You'll get that house you want one day. You just have to keep working towards it and believe you will :)
