GROCERY SHOPPING IN THE RAIN WITH THREE KIDS IS LIKE...

Today is Saturday, which means it's grocery shopping day.  I woke up, looked outside and rain...pouring.down.rain. Yay!  Just what every mother wants to wake up to on grocery shopping day right??? No.  But what are you going to do when you have no milk, no cheese, no eggs, no half & half, no almond milk, no yogurt, no coffee, no bread...you get my point...we had nothing!

I haven't done a big grocery shopping trip to buy an bulk items since before having Jude so today was the day to start stocking up on some bulk items that I really needed.  My Sam's Club membership expired in October so I had to decide today whether I wanted to renew with Sam's Club or join Costco.  After a lot of thought and advice from other THM ladies, I decided to give Costco a try for this year and see which one I like better.

We set off to Costco, me and the three littles.  Ruy is gone this weekend so he had to "miss out" on all the "fun" :)  When we got to Costco I put Jude in the Ergo and went to unbuckle Alanna and Liam.  I open their door and see Alanna has unlaced her boots.  So I stand there beside the van, in the rain, and re-lace her boots.  I reach in the back squishing little Jude a little as I try to unbuckle Liam...and I'm still getting rained on.  I carry Alanna so we can walk faster (thank goodness I have a backpack for my diaper bag right now) and hurry Liam out of the van as he tries to open up his umbrella.  We get inside and I have to sign up for a membership.  I keep Alanna and Liam occupied with Goldfish.  We get through Costco in just under an hour.  Between signing up for a membership and having to learn where things are in a new store, it took us some time to get out of there.  But we did get to enjoy a few samples which is always fun.  I was happy with everything I saw at Costco so far.  We head outside and I start walking the wrong way.  Then I stop and tell Liam I don't remember where I parked.  He tells me "Mom, we parked over there."  And he points to a parking isle.  I walk over to it and there is our van....smart 4 year old!

By this point it's time for Jude to nurse again but it's not quite time for lunch.  So we head to Chick-fil-a and  let the kids play while I nurse Jude.  Alanna tries to run out of the play area and I jump up to keep her in the play area, all while trying to continue to nurse Jude under his blanket and not flash the whole world :)  She decides to obey and stay in the play area but then gets stuck going up to the slide and I have to squeeze myself up into the play area to get her.  I was really missing Ruy at that point.

We then head to the bathroom to go potty and wash hands.  Jude is poopy and not happy about it and is letting the world know.  While I'm changing him, Alanna and Liam are trying to flush the toilet and Alanna thinks playing with the toilet scrubber looks like loads of fun.  I take their hands and have them stand against the wall near the changing table.  I ask them to sing me a song.  They both start belting out a song at the top of their lungs.  I have no idea what they were singing about and even though they were very loud...they were not crying, screaming, fighting, or playing in the toilet!  Success!!!  It's all about finding the joy in the little things right???!!! Then I look down and Alanna has unlaced her boots again.  I quickly fix then and then we step out of the stall and go to wash our hands.  I help Liam wash his hands and then he slips off the stool and falls onto the floor but is not hurt.  I hand him paper towels and start washing Alanna's hands and then realize that Liam is still getting paper towels out of the paper towel machine.  I think he had at least 20 in his hands.  I quickly grab his hands and tell him to stop now please!  And then see that Alanna has untied her boots.  I'm over the boots thing by this point.

We head out to order and I tell Liam exactly how I expect him to act while I'm ordering.  He obeys and is great while I'm ordering which is always a blessing.  We sit down to eat and Alanna breaks her cup so we have to get a new one.  Then Liam tries to drink out of her cup and Alanna gets really angry so she throws her entire cup of lemonade onto the floor!  Yes, please, I need another cup.  The rest of the meal was uneventful though and we headed out to Kroger to finish our grocery shopping. I took Alanna's boots off so that she couldn't unlace them or untie them again.  Three for Alanna & One for Mom :)

We pull into Kroger and there is an empty parking lot at the front.  WINNING!!! I get out and go to put Jude in the Ergo but he has pooped again.  I change him on the front seat and strap him into the Ergo and within three seconds of strapping him in, he poops again.  Really.  Newborns.never.stop.pooping!  :)  I decide since he is asleep and seems very happy, I will leave the poop in his diaper.  I unbuckle Alanna and Liam and we head into Kroger.  We got in and out of Kroger without any drama other than Alanna getting tired and wanting me to hold her.

We load up and head home.  It's raining again and Ruy has a soccer game at 1:40 that we're supposed to go to.  Alanna falls asleep on the way home and so I decide to just stay home and let her sleep and keep Jude out of the rain.  I hated missing Ruy's game but I felt it was for the best interest of the two littlest ones.

We get home, I take Alanna inside to her bed since she's asleep and turn on Toy Story for Liam while I unload all the groceries.  Jude stays asleep in his car seat the whole time.  I make some coffee and sit down to write this post and take a few moments to myself to relax.

Though grocery shopping (especially in the rain) is not the most fun way to spend my Saturday morning I do enjoy being with the kids (they keep life busy, interesting, fun & full of love)

... the rest of the afternoon was very nice spending time at home, windows open, listening to the rain, making muffins, playing with the kids, and enjoying time together.  Nathan got his guitar out and we all snuggled up outside under a blanket listening to him play.

Here's to grocery shopping with all your munchkins & rainy Saturday afternoons with family!
