Our Last Day of September

Today was the last day in September.  I feel like I blinked and it was gone!  Seriously once you have kids time goes by ridiculously fast.  We spent the last day of September continuing to learn about apples.  I've been working with Liam a little on learning his letters and their sounds.  I always do an apple study with the kids each year around this time so it worked out well with Liam learning about the letter A.

Today I read Johnny Appleseed to the boys while they painted pictures of apple trees.  We read this book for the first time last year and Ruy just loved it, so he asked for me to read it again this year. We also read a book about how apples grow, all the different kinds of apples there are, and what the different parts of an apple are.  I had planned on making homemade play-doh with the boys tonight and doing another apple craft but we ended up going to my Dad's for dinner.  The boys had a blast riding bikes and scooters at his house so we'll work on the play-doh and other apple craft tomorrow.  I loved how their apple tree paintings turned out!

I drew Liam's tree outline with markers and then Liam used his Do-A-Dot Paint for his apple tree.  I like that the Do-A-Dot Paint is easy for him to use and he loves them.  But I don't like how hard they are to wash off his hands.  They say they are "washable" but the paint doesn't come off when you wash their hands.  It usually takes a good soaking and scrubbing in the tub for me to get it off of him.

Ruy likes to use Acrylic paint when he paints.  I usually get mine at Michael's when it goes on sale.

I love their pictures so much!

Ruy is officially getting way too big!  And Liam's new "bug eyes, serious face" smile is killing me! He is so silly.  And his boots are on the wrong feet.  He has started to ask me "Mommy is this the right feet?"  Meaning: "Are my shoes on the right feet?"
Well that's all for tonight! Happy October Eve!

Monday Ramblings

Friday night Nathan was home all day.  It was fabulous.  We had a really good day.  But the highlight of my day was when Nathan played with the kids while I made dinner.  I was able to make dinner, set the table, and wash all the dishes before dinner without one.single.interruption from the kids!!!  Oh if that could only happen every night.

Saturday morning as I was drying my hair, Liam came running into the bathroom with so much energy.  He said "Mommy!  I feel happy!"  I asked him why he felt happy?  He said "Daddy!  Daddy makes me happy!"  He had the biggest smile on his sweet little face.  He reached up to me and gave me a kiss and a big hug and then ran back outside.  Nathan was sitting outside reading his Bible while Liam rode his bike.  And to Liam, it just completely made his day!

It was such a simple thing...
Sometimes as adults, we can get so caught up in our routine, our schedule, our stresses,  that we forget to just enjoy the simple things in life that really make our lives happy!  I had to stop and think about how much I do that.  It's something I really need to work on.  Looking at life the way a child looks at life really changes your perspective on things.

Saturday night, Alanna used her toothbrush for the first time.  The drool that was running down her face told me that she loved it.

Today was pretty uneventful.  It rained all day.  Ruy came home from his vacation last night and I was SO happy to have him back.  I missed him terribly.  He drew this adorable picture today.  It's him being a cowboy with a little goat.  We're thinking about getting some goats so he wanted to draw one.  I think he did an amazing job on this cowboy!

I ran out to the store for an hour this afternoon and was thankful to find some new rain boots for Liam.  His boots from last year got broken so he needed new ones.  He has missed his boots so bad.  He wore them pretty much every day last year so you can imagine his excitement when he pulled the new boots out of the bag!  He immediately put them on and didn't take them off the rest of the night.  They are sitting by his bed right now as he sleeps! Of course his hat is next to his bed as well.  Be prepared to see lots of pictures of Liam with his hat and rain boots on this fall.  It's been over a year and Liam is still wearing his hat pretty much every day.

We have a pretty full week the rest of the week.  Wednesday is Awanas, Thursday is soccer practice, Friday we're going to the State Fair, Saturday is Ruy's soccer game, and Sunday is church and Apple Picking!!!  Whew!  I'm exhausted already.  Not really.  I'm pretty much overly excited about going to the fair and the apple orchard!

Happy Monday everyone and I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Through The Years...Apple Picking

My favorite family day of the entire year is when we go to the Apple Orchard and go Apple Picking!!!  It's always so much fun.  I thought since we are going next week, that I would post some of my favorite pictures from our Apple Picking Days over the past few years.  It was fun writing this and seeing how much our family has changed over the years.  We ended up not being able to go in 2010 but have gone every other year since 2009.  I'm excited about Alanna being with us (outside of my belly) this time!
Enjoy!

October 2009

The first year we went, we went with my sister and her family, and my Dad.  We celebrated his 50th birthday there.  It was really cold and rained most of the day but we still had a blast. I can't believe how little Ruy was then.  He was only TWO!

October 2011

What a difference in weather we had from 2009 to 2011.  It was SO hot in 2011.  Our visit at the orchard got cut short that year because Liam decided to poop while Nathan was holding him and it ran out of Liam's diaper ALL OVER the front of Nathan.  He didn't think it was funny then but we get a good laugh out of it now.

October 2012

Once again, we had another hot day at the apple orchard.  But we really had fun that year.  We went during the week instead of on the weekend and there was hardly any one there.  We didn't have to fight our way through crowds of people.  We sat for a long time in this one shady spot and just let the boys play and eat a bunch of apples.  I miss Liam's curls.  I kept his hair short since right before his third birthday because he was so hot all the time, but now I'm thinking I will have to let it grow back out this Fall now that the weather has cooled off.

October 2013

This was probably my favorite year.  The weather was SO perfect this year.  It drizzled for only about 15 minutes, and then the rest of the day was around 60 degrees.  We really just took our time.  We talked, played, laughed, ate about 6...ok 12 apple cider doughnuts between the 4 of us, ate a bunch of apples and picked even more!

I hope you enjoyed our Apple Picking Days Through The Years!  I am SOOO excited for our Apple Picking Day coming up next week!
